Summary of MSDWT Choir Programs

Middle School

6th Grade Choir Beginning Choir (2 semesters): This is a non-audition beginning choir typically
made up of sixth grade students. The beginning choir performs a variety of music as well as learning vocal and singing techniques, performance skills, and music theory instruction. This group performs at school concerts as well as some school functions.


7th and 8th Grade Intermediate Choir (2 semesters): This is a non-audition choir for seventh and eighth grade students. This choir performs a variety of fun and challenging music as well as learning vocal and singing techniques, performance skills, and music theory instruction. Students will participate in school and community performances. This year-long choir is a non-audition based group that is available to both 7th and 8th graders.


7th or 8th Advanced Choirs (2 Semesters):

Advanced choirs are for students with a strong interest in vocal and choral performance. Membership in this class is based on singing ability, music literacy skills, and work ethic and will require an application or audition depending on the choir. Each student will have the opportunity to learn more advanced singing techniques, develop their choral skills and combine these with creative performance elements and opportunities. Students will be required to attend performances, rehearsals, and competitions outside of the school day. These outside activities will be a factor in the determination of the grade including all school performances, community performances, and ISSMA Organizational contests. There are fees ranging from $60-120 depending on the number of events in which the site participates. Fundraising opportunities are available to cover the cost.


7th or 8th Grade Show Choir (2 Semesters): Show Choir is for students with an exceptional voice and interest in dance. Membership in this class is based on singing ability, dance aptitude, music literacy skills, work ethic with an emphasis on vocal and dance productions. Enrolment in the course will require an application and audition depending on the ensemble. Each student will have the opportunity to learn more advanced singing techniques and combine these with creative performance elements and opportunities. Students will be required to attend performances, rehearsals, and competitions outside of the school day. These outside activities will be a factor in the determination of the grade including all school performances, community performances, and ISSMA Organizational contests. High School

The choirs at North Central High School provide a comprehensive experience with special emphasis placed on both Concert Choir and Show Choir. The North Central Choirs consistently earn high marks and are highly regarded throughout the state of Indiana, and nationwide.
